CNN —LeBron James sat courtside for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 102-109 defeat to the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Monday. James’ presence wasn’t enough to inspire the Cavaliers, however, as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum combined for 60 points to lift the Celtics to a commanding 3-1 series lead. Tatum finished with a game high 33 points to go with 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Brown had 27 points and eight rebounds. The Cavaliers were without star guard Donovan Mitchell, who missed the contest due to a calf strain suffered in the fourth quarter of Game 3. The news was a pre-match sucker punch for Cleveland, with Mitchell putting up 33 points in the Game 3 loss on Saturday, his sixth straight playoff game scoring at least 25 points.

Lawyers for the Authors Guild said in court filings that the datasets likely contained "more than 100,000 published books" and are central to its allegations that OpenAI used copyrighted materials to train AI models. OpenAI and other companies used data from the internet, including many books, to build these models. The startup has since identified the employees to lawyers for the Authors Guild but has not publicly disclosed their names. The Authors Guild has opposed this, arguing for the public's right to know. One document, filed in April of 2023, listed Jacob Thomas Vespers and Vespers Inc—a company formed the same day—as manager of the fund. A document filed a few weeks later registered the address of the company as unit 234, a small second-story apartment overlooking the courtyard at The Orchard. When OpenAI was informed about the Vespers document by the journalist in July 2023, the company did not report the allegedly fabricated filing to any authorities, Wood said. All of them are associated with Jacob Thomas Vespers, referred to in some documents as Jacob Thomas Redmond Messer or Jacob Thomas Redmond or Jacob Thomas Messer. There's a github post made under a profile name, Jacob Thomas Redmond, on May 19th, 2023 that bears some tell-tale signs of being AI generated.

CNN —Three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert has been fined $100,000 after he appeared to make a money gesture towards an official during the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 113-104 overtime loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. The action appeared to be directed at referee Scott Foster who had handed out the foul. And although Foster missed it, fellow official Natalie Sago saw Gobert’s gesture and assessed a technical foul to the center, which proved to be costly for Minnesota. The $100k fine is a significant step up from the $25,000 fine that he was handed for his third offense in 2023. Minnesota assistant coach Micah Nori, who was filling in for head coach Chris Finch due to illness, described the gesture as unacceptable and lamented the timing of the technical foul call.
